RiVers
What?
For every program at our faculty, there are a few students who step into the role of Student Representative (RiVer). They serve as the point of contact for other students and represent their program to the professors. Their main task is to sit on the Permanent Education Committee, abbreviated as POC. This is a meeting together with several professors and teaching assistants from the program, chaired by the program director. Beyond this, they are also always eager to help students in their program with any issues.
Field representatives are the backbone of our faculty and student representation!
What is expected of you?
- Being a point of contact: You help fellow students with problems and briefly introduce yourself in class at the beginning of the year.
- Sitting on the POC: The Permanent Education Committee meets about 6 times a year together with professors, teaching assistants, and the program director.
- Representing: You represent the general opinion of your study year, not just your personal viewpoint.
- Quality assurance: You check ECTS files for errors, help keep the subject wikis and BurgieClan up to date, and forward missing course materials to the course service.
- VTK Bureau involvement: You attend the VTK Bureau to stay informed about current educational files (such as lecture recordings) and to provide input from your POC.
What do you get in return?
- Direct influence on improving and innovating your study program.
- Valuable soft skills: professional negotiation, defending viewpoints, and communicating with academic staff.
- Eternal gratitude from VTK Education and your fellow students.
- And finally, a special thank you from Education and exclusive RiVer activities!
If you are hesitating: the time commitment is very manageable and easy to combine with your studies; it will not take up a huge chunk of your free time. You also don't need to be afraid of the professors—they truly appreciate the input of the students!
RiVer Elections
You can apply as a candidate until Wednesday 7/10 at 23:59, by filling in this form. After that, the form will be closed. Following the application period, an objection period will run until Wednesday 14/10 at 23:59. Your name and some details will be published on the website, so that everyone has the opportunity to submit an objection if needed.
Are there no objections after the objection period? Then you are officially elected as a representative! If there are, the Neucom (neutral committee) will start an election. The full procedure, supplementing the Internal Regulations of VTK, can be found here. On this page you can find the candidate RiVers for this academic year, as well as the elected RiVers from previous years. If you wish to submit an objection against one of the candidates, send an email to neucom@vtk.be before Wednesday 14 October 23:59.
Neutral Committee (Neucom)
The members of the Neutral Committee this year are Alexander Dubois and Yoran Weustenberg. They can be reached collectively at the email address neucom@vtk.be. They oversee the proper conduct of the RiVer elections.
If you wish to appeal against Neucom, you can do so by sending an email to Tom Moermans.
